About Joyce

It all started when…

Chuck and Joyce Thayer began visiting Oakwood Baptist Church in the Spring of 2017 and became members in November of that same year.

Since then, Joyce has helped teach children in the pre-Kindergarten department, and Chuck has taught in numerous teaching ministries in the Adult Bible Study on Sunday morning, the Tuesday Morning Bible Study, and Wednesday evening Adult Bible Study. Chuck and Joyce have three grown children and three granddaughters that keep them grounded here in Kansas City. (Otherwise, they might have relocated to Chuck’s hometown Santa Fe, New Mexico, years ago!)

Joyce came on staff in March of 2020, after having retired from Energy Transfer nine months earlier, where she had served as Division Administrative Assistant for 15 years. Her interest in accepting the Ministry Assistant position at Oakwood came from a desire to be useful and productive in fulfilling duties in which she has had extensive experience in her 50-year career in administration.

She and Chuck have enjoyed the family atmosphere at Oakwood and are blessed to be a part of this congregation.
